It was Benjamin Franklin, as long ago as 1789, who made the comment that “In this world, nothing can said to be certain, except death and taxes”. And although we all understand why we pay taxes, nobody actually wants to pay them.
Since 1997 the UK’s tax legislation has doubled in length, and at over 11,000 pages long is now the most voluminous in the world, having recently overtaken India.
We do not pretend to be familiar with all this legislation, but we place great emphasis on ensuring that all staff involved in tax work are kept fully up to date on all changes in the tax rules as they apply to the clients that we deal with.
Planning, by definition, means thinking through a course of action in advance, and this is essential if you want to minimise your exposure to tax. And tax, in this context, means not only Income Tax but also Capital Gains Tax, Inheritance Tax and Stamp Duty.
If you are thinking of undertaking any one-off or unusual transaction, please contact us so that we can talk through the consequences and advise you on ways of optimising your tax position.
