| Nicholas Morrell Director  | Nicholas graduated from the University of Leeds in 1973 and then entered a training contract with W J James & Co. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1976 and became a partner of the firm in October 1978. Nicholas has a wealth of experience and expertise in providing business advice and support to our clients. He specialises in business planning and development and tax related issues. Nicholas concentrates on larger corporate clients across many industries within the firm’s busy portfolio, but admitted, he tends to “have his fingers in a lot of pies”. Another of Nicholas' specialisms is advising clients in the medical profession. |
| Alun Williams Director  | Alun graduated from the University of Bristol in 1993. Whilst at university, he worked at W J James & Co in the holidays. On graduation, he entered a training contract with Deloitte & Touche. He qualified in 1996 and in October 1997, he left Deloitte & Touche and joined W J James & Co, becoming a partner in October 1998. Alun heads the audit department and looks after a wide range of clients in many specialist sectors, including the arts and public funded bodies. He has a diverse client base ranging from high profile charities to the more conventional commercial companies. Alun also specialises in dealing with clients from professional practice, including the legal profession and estate agents. |
| Rebecca Powell Chartered Accountant  | Rebecca graduated from the University of Wales Aberystwyth with a Degree in Agriculture & Business Studies. She qualified as a Chartered Accountant with PriceWaterhouseCoopers in Cardiff before returning home to work for W J James & Co in 2000 to manage the Hay-on-Wye office. She specialises in agriculture, being a farmer’s daughter from the Talgarth area. Rebecca has a wide variety of clients ranging from sole traders and partnerships to limited companies. |
| Joanna Roderick Chartered Accountant  | Joanna graduated from the University of Wales Aberystwyth and entered a training contract with a firm of accountants in London. She transferred her contract to W J James & Co when she joined in October 2003 and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2005. Joanna manages a varied portfolio of clients, a large proportion of which are farming businesses. She also deals with limited company accounts and audits and has significant experience of the accounts of charities, solicitors and estate agents. |
| Robert Gowar Audit Manager  | Robert has worked in the accountancy profession since 1970 and joined W J James & Co in December 1985. His work mainly involves accounts preparation and audits for incorporated businesses. He also assists the accounts departments of some of our larger clients with the preparation of management accounts. He has a considerable amount of experience with Sage software and assists clients with setting up systems and dealing with any ongoing problems they may have. Robert also specialises in solicitor’s accounts, together with the associated annual reporting to the Law Society. |
| Richard Price Accounts Manager  | Richard has been with W J James & Co for over fifty years and is therefore the longest serving member of the team. He now works on a part time basis, from both the Brecon and the Hay-on-Wye offices, dealing mainly with the accounts of sole traders and partnerships and their tax affairs. Richard comes from a farming background and this is an area in which he specialises. |
| Sylvia Bermingham Payroll Manager  | Sylvia has worked for W J James & Co for over 15 years. She manages the payroll department and provides advice and support in all matters relating to PAYE and compliance. Sylvia is also involved in accounts preparation and assists in the production of management accounts for some of the firm’s larger clients. |
