About Us

We are a long established firm of Chartered Accountants and have been in business for over 75 years.  The firm was established in Brecon in 1929, by Wyndham James as a branch office of Stephenson Smart & Co, a Peterborough firm of accountants who specialised in farming.  After several years, Mr James bought the firm and renamed it W J James & Co.  The original office was above a newsagent's shop in the Bulwark, but we moved to the present offices at Bishop House in the early 1960s.

The practice, which also has an office in Castle Street in Hay-on-Wye, is run by two directors supported by a team of 17 experienced individuals, all dedicated to providing a high level of support to clients.

The practice enjoys a wide client base ranging from small sole traders and partnerships through to high profile charities and corporate businesses.
